Key changes in the education system of Belarus during the 2022-23 academic year
The academic year 2022-23 was marked by many changes. The general secondary education (11 grades) is now required, whereas before September 1, 2022, it was compulsory. The education can no longer be conducted in a language of the national minorities. Distance learning has become an independent form alongside full-time and part-time education. Moreover, at the end of the 11th grade, students take two Centralized Exams. Grades for these exams are considered when assigning a final score to diploma. The certificates are also used for admission to universities. The following have been added to the grounds for expulsion of undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students: absence from classes due to serving an administrative sentence for penalties following an administrative arrest; committing actions that interfere with other education stakeholders in fulfilling their duties and exercising their rights in the field of education; calling on students to fail to fulfil their responsibilities.
