One of the unexpected consequences of the political crisis provoked by the controversial results of the presidential elections and the unprecedented violence of the security forces against protesters was the campaign of defamation of historical national symbols and national heroes launched in Belarusian state media, regarding which there were no conflicts in Belarusian society until recently.
