The March monitoring study was characterized by a significant increase in the ideologization of Belarusian education, and this trend continued in April. Interestingly, while in March the intensification of the ideologization of Belarusian education did not affect the information agenda of the Ministry of Education, by the end of April the ideological component had fully affected the news policy of the ministry.
On the official website of the ministry, 9 out of 25 news items (36%) had an ideological slant, while in the official Telegram channel, 51 out of 152 news items (34%) had an ideological slant. As can be seen, every third news item in April on the Ministry of Education’s resources had an ideological slant, and these figures correspond to the average ideologization of the department’s information agenda at the end of 2024.
Speaking about the general state of Belarusian education, the following features and phenomena were characteristic of it in March:
- Tightening of legislation in the field of education.
- The state’s fight against independent educational initiatives.
- Active propaganda campaign by the authorities to combat the departure of Belarusian citizens abroad.
- High rates of ideologization of Belarusian education.
- The dominance of the Great Patriotic War theme in Belarusian education.
- Increased militarization of Belarusian education.
- The authorities continue to introduce training programs on unmanned aerial vehicle control into the educational process.
- Record number of contacts with Russian educational institutions.
- Strengthening Russian influence in Belarusian education.
